Mall world for health insurance

In the next 3 years, millions of uninsured Americans will be required by law to purchase health insurance or pay a fine. A few health insurers have opened stores in shopping malls and are using some bells and whistles to attract new customers.

You should remember that the insurers’ goal is to sell insurance and that behind that friendly face is a salesperson, warns Susan Dennett, who is a professor of human-resource management at Northwood University’s campus in West Palm Beach, Fla. Dennett, who used to counsel people about benefits, suggests that you should compare such things as prices, deductibles and policies on medication reimbursement through an independent broker and research at least three insurance companies in addition to what you might hear at a mall store.
