You now don’t have to pay quite as much as you used to to make your cabinets or other furniture look old and weathered.

Angela O’Neill, who is a spokesperson for Wellborn Cabinet, told Consumers Digest at the 2012 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago that the company’s “distressed” finishes, which give wood furniture a layered and weathered appearance, have reached midrange products. She said that kind of finish used to be available only as part of a custom job instead of as an option. On a $200 cabinet, for instance, a distressed finish now adds about $40 to the price.
