Chris “Ludacris” Bridges is a four-time Grammy-winning rapper who made Forbes’ Hip Hop Cash Kings list. He rang in about $16 million in earnings in 2007. Still, he drives a 1993 Acura Legend. This isn’t the only surprise money-move that he’s made. A year and a half ago he launched Straits, which is a restaurant in midtown Atlanta that serves Singaporean cuisine. He figured that people would expect him to serve soul food.

One of the keys to the early success of the restaurant, Bridges says, was his focus on curb appeal. Upgrades that he made increased business, but it also has increased the value of the property.

Bridges has about 10 percent of his money invested in the restaurant, 60 percent in real estate and 30 percent in other businesses, which includes a cognac that he’s expecting to launch by year’s end.
