Dodge Grand Caravan

We found this minivan to deliver a carload of family-minded amenities, tasteful design and pleasing performance. Although the base model includes a 175-hp 3.3-liter V6 engine and a dated four-speed automatic gearbox, we prefer either the 197-hp 3.8-liter V6 or the 251-hp 4.0-liter version that's offered on top models. Both of these powerplants are mated to a six-speed automatic that we found shifts smoothly. The Grand Caravan delivers a reasonably soft ride and easy handling. So-called Stow 'n Go seating (the second row can fold into the floor) is standard on the Grand Caravan, and the Swivel 'n Go setup (the second row can face rearward with a small table between the two rows) is alternately available. The former can be truly handy; we believe that the latter has limited utility.
