Ford Taurus

This vehicle, formerly known as the Five Hundred and very similar to the new Mercury Montego, was renamed for 2008 and spiced up with freshened styling and added power and sophistication. Its looks remain fairly conservative. A new 3.5-liter V6 engine is the most welcome addition—it’s about 30 percent more powerful than last year’s version and registers a smooth and swift 263 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission is now the only available gearbox, which increases fuel economy and gives the car added muscle too. It delivers crisp cornering and maintains a smooth, though not buoyant, ride. You can add stability control and all-wheel drive for increased security on wet roads and in extreme handling circumstances. The Taurus offers a truly spacious interior with generous comfort for five long-legged adults, along with a huge trunk and many amenities.
