Review

The base eAssist models of this roomy, quiet and comfortable sedan utilize a small electric motor to boost a fuel-efficient 2.4-liter, 182-hp gasoline engine as necessary. An automatic stop-start function shuts down the engine while at idle to further save gasoline. This combination works well enough, but the LaCrosse remains in our view better matched to the optional stronger and more refined 3.6-liter, 303-hp V6 engine. The sedan’s ride and handling attributes are on the soft side. In this way, the LaCrosse is an ideal companion for drivers who suffer long and arduous commutes. We found the optional HiPer Strut front suspension and the real-time damping-adjustable suspension’s Sport mode to enliven the car’s handling only a bit. All-wheel drive is optional but is essential only if you live in extreme climates. We suggest that most owners forgo the added cost; the base front-wheel-drive configuration would suffice. Inside, the LaCrosse’s fit and finish equal what once was the domain of the imports.
