| This sedan, once known as the Montego and quite comparable
to Ford’s Taurus ,was renamed for 2008. Its styling
was nicely tweaked, and its power was increased. In
fact, overall, the bar was raised versus the Montego,
though its looks remain rather traditional. The Sable’s
3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering about 30 percent more
power than last year’s version of the Montego,
produces a smooth and quick 263 horsepower. A six-speed
automatic transmission is the only available gearbox,
but it lifts the sedan’s fuel economy versus the
Montego and gives the car added muscle. You’ll
find the Sable to have crisp cornering and a smooth,
though not buoyant, ride. Stability control and all-wheel
drive improves the car’s performance on wet roads
and in extreme handling circumstances. A spacious interior
and comfortable environment makes long trips easy on
five tall adults. As for trunk size: It’s huge.
