Electrolux, LG and Samsung won’t face duties

Three overseas refrigerator manufacturers who faced allegations that they sold bottom-freezer models for less than U.S. market value won’t have to pay tariffs on their products that were imported and sold in the United States.

U.S. International Trade Commission unanimously voted against imposing tariffs against Electrolux, LG and Samsung on April 17. The decision reverses a March ruling by Department of Commerce that said the three manufacturers should pay tariffs that reflect the percentage by which they undersold their refrigerators.

Experts had speculated that the tariffs might lead to higher prices for consumers. Electrolux manufactures bottom-freezer refrigerators in Mexico. LG and Samsung manufacture bottom-freezer refrigerators in Mexico and South Korea.
