Food and Drug Administration approved the first combination drug tablet to treat Type 2 diabetes and manage high cholesterol levels.

The drug combines a fixed dose of sitagliptin and simvastatin, which is marketed as Juvisync by MSD International.

The FDA-approved tablet combines 100 milligrams of sitagliptin with either 10, 20, 30 or 40 milligrams of simvastatin. Approval of a 50-milligram tablet that’s combined with the same simvastatin amounts is pending.
