GM redesigns OnStar for 2013 models
General Motors
General Motors has retooled its OnStar communications system for 2013 vehicles. The makeover includes expanded voice-control capabilities and new names for buttons.
The OnStar Hands-Free Calling button is now called Voice Command, and it allows drivers to access stock, traffic and weather updates as well as save MapQuest directions through OnStar.
The new system also syncs up with in-vehicle infotainment systems, such as Chevrolet’s MyLink and Cadillac’s CUE. For instance, the infotainment touch screen will have an OnStar icon that allows you to activate Voice Command.
The OnStar button now uses the new logo that was introduced in 2010 and the system’s emergency button now has an “SOS” symbol that is more universally recognizable.
The 2013 Camaro will sport the revamped OnStar System on its new frameless rear-view mirror, which is standard on the 2SS, 2LT and ZL1 coupe and convertible models.
The new OnStar system will be available on all 2013 GM models except Chevrolet’s Captiva, Express, Malibu ECO, Savana and Volt. The OnStar system will be made available on these models in 2014 according to OnStar spokesperson Stefan Cross.
