New York City today approved a ban on the sale of supersize, sugar-laden beverages.

The ban means that soda and other sugary beverages that are larger than 16 ounces can’t be sold at restaurants, movie theaters or sporting events in New York City. Businesses that don’t comply with the ban face a $200 fine.

Consumers Digest first reported on proposed ban as well as the health concerns that are related to sweeteners in “The Truth About Sugar & Sweeteners” in the September/October 2012 issue.
