Beginning in 2019, every new Volvo will have some form of electric power.

That doesn’t mean that the automaker is ditching gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles, however. The company says that after 2019, any new automobile that it launches will be a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric model. Models that run purely on gasoline or diesel will be phased out gradually.

Volvo adds that it will introduce five electric vehicles between 2019 and 2021, three of which will be high-performance models from Volvo’s new Polestar brand. Details will be announced later, the company says.
