Volkswagen is pulling the Touareg out of the U.S. market.

According to reports, sales of the midsize SUV, which has been available in the United States since 2004, declined to 1,630 units in the first half of 2017. No direct replacement has been named for the 2018 model year, although the redesigned Tiguan is reported to be the closest fit.

Consumers Digest was unimpressed with the performance of the 2016 Touareg, which is the latest model that we reviewed, relative to its price. The 2017 base model starts at $49,495. All three of our 2017 midsize SUV Best Buy recommendations start below $32,000.
