Zappos.com breach affects 24 million customers
Jan. 16, 2012—Zappos.com notified its customers of a security breach and asked them to change their account passwords. The company allowed the passwords of its 24 million customer to expire, and it set new passwords in the meantime.
CEO Tony Hsieh said in an email to Zappo employees and customers that customers’ credit-card information wasn’t compromised. However, account information such as customers’ names, email addresses and the final four digits of an on-file credit card could have been accessed by an unauthorized party.
Zappos.com and law-enforcement officials are assessing the breach.
