July 25, 2017—Mazda North American Operations recalled 2007–2011 CX-7 and CX-9 vehicles and 2009–2011 Mazda6 vehicles.
During a crash, the affected vehicles’ front-passenger air-bag inflator might rupture because of propellant degradation that occurred after long-term exposure to moderate absolute humidity and temperature cycling. In the event of a rupture, metal fragments might strike the vehicle occupants, which increases the risk of serious injury or death. The affected air-bag inflators were used as original equipment for new vehicles and as replacement parts.
Mazda North American Operations will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front-passenger air-bag inflator with an alternate inflator for free. The recall began July 24, 2017.
