BJ’s Wholesale Club recalls Superex LED flashlights due to fire hazard

Jan. 26, 2012—BJ’s Wholesale Club is recalling its Superex Safteto Go LED flashlight and battery set because the flashlight can heat up, smoke or melt when they are turned on. This poses fire and burn hazards.

The flashlight sets include one 9.5-inch flashlight that has 10 LEDs, two 7.5-inch flashlights that have seven LEDs, and two 6-inch flashlights that have five LEDs. The sets also include seven D batteries and four AA batteries. The flashlights are made of either black or red plastic and have black or gray rubber around the handle and light base. The words Superex, Safteo Go Family Pack, and Bright White LED Flashlights appear on the front of the package. The UPC 056986010083 is printed on the back of the package along with SKU number 700935.

BJ’s has received two reports of incidents that occurred the flashlights, including one unit overheating and one unit burning and making a loud noise. One minor hand injury was reported.

The products were sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club stores from July 2011 through December 2011 for about $15.

Consumers should stop using the flashlight immediately and return it to any BJ’s Wholesale Club store for a full refund. Consumers should dispose of the batteries properly before they return the flashlight to the store.
