BMW recalls M5, M6 due to possible engine failure
Oct. 5, 2012—BMW recalled model-year 2013 M5, M6 Convertible and M6 Coupe vehicles that were manufactured from July 19, 2012, through Sept. 11, 2012. The engine’s oil-pump driveshaft could separate from the rotor, whichcould lead to a loss of oil pressure and cause the engine to fail. This would result in an engine stall and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the oil pump free. The recall is expected to begin October 2012.
