Excel Industries recalls lawnmowers on fire hazard

Nov. 1, 2012—Excel Industries recalled BigDog and Hustler lawn mowers, because the lawnmowers’ fuel-tank vent-valve fitting can fail to seal and can cause a fuel leak, which would pose a fire hazard to consumers.

For a list of the affected product names and serial numbers, go to Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website. The product’s model name and serial number are printed on a tag that’s located on the left side of the frame in the front of the lawnmower’s fender.

The recalled products were sold at BigDog and Hustler dealers nationwide from September 2010 through May 2012. The company received 152 reports of vent-valve fittings that failed. No injuries were reported. Consumers should stop using the recalled lawnmowers and contact a Hustler or BigDog dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair.

For more information, call Excel Industries at 800/748-8223 Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. CT or go to bigdogmowers.com or hustlerturf.com.
