Feb. 24, 2017—Stihl recalled certain gas-powered chain saws, because the fuel line can leak fuel, which poses a fire and burn hazard.

The recall involves MS 461 gas-powered chain saws and MS 461 R chain saws that have a wrap handle. The model number is on the model plate that’s on the starter cover, and “STIHL” is printed on the engine cover. The affected serial numbers are from 173092800 through 181993952; the number is under the front hand guard on the engine’s housing sprocket side.

The recalled products were sold from July 2012 through December 2016 at authorized Stihl dealers nationwide.

Stihl received 117 reports of a pinched or leaking fuel line. No fires or injuries were reported as of press time.

Consumers immediately should stop using the product and may return it to an authorized Stihl dealer for a free inspection and repair.

For more information, consumers may call Stihl at 800/233-4729 Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. ET, email stihlrecall@stihl.us or go to stihlusa.com.
