GM recalls Aura, G6, Malibu because of possible roll away crash
Sept. 21, 2012—General Motors recalled Saturn Aura (2007–2010), Pontiac G6 (2008–2010) and Chevrolet Malibu (2008–2010) vehicles that are equipped with a four-speed transmission. The tabs on the transmission-shift cable end might fracture and separate.
If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the position of the transmission gear might not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to “park” and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in “park.” The vehicle might not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver exits the vehicle, which could result in a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers repair the cable free. Owners may call GM at 800/521-7300. Owners also may call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
