Sept. 27, 2012—Gretchen’s Shoebox recalled Evolution Fresh brand almond butter and cinnamon-apple-and-almond-butter sandwich because the almond butter that was used might be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and individuals who have weakened immune systems.

The recalled almond butter was packaged in a clear, plastic oval container that has UPC 76211126838 and an “enjoy by” date range of Aug. 7, 2012, through Oct. 12, 2012. The recalled sandwich was packaged in clear plastic wrap that has UPC 762111926371 and an enjoy-by date range of July 26, 2012, through Sept. 25, 2012.

The products were distributed to retailers in Washington. No illnesses were reported. Consumers shouldn’t consume the products and should discard them.
