Health risk cited in recall of ZuPreem bird food
Oct. 29, 2012—Premium Nutritional Products recalled certain ZuPreem bird food, because the products might contain high levels of calcium and vitamin D, and low phosphorus levels, a combination that can be a health risk for birds.
The recalled products are ZuPreem Fruit Blend with Natural Fruit Flavors bird food for medium/large birds and ZuPreem Fruit Blend with Natural Fruit Flavors bird food for large birds. Each product was sold in 2-, 3.5-, 12-, 17.5- and 35-pound packages. All have a lot code of 598405052 or 598405072 and a date code of 11/13 or 11/30/13.
The recalled products were distributed to pet retailers and veterinary clinics nationwide from May 21, 2012, through Aug. 23, 2012. Consumers should dispose of any remaining food and return the packaging to the store where they purchased it for replacement or refund.
