Hyundai recalls Sonata because air bag might deploy unexpectedly
July 30, 2012—Hyundai recalled 2012–2013 Hyundai Sonata models that were manufactured from Jan. 24, 2012, through June 21, 2012. The curtain-side air bags on these vehicles might inflate without deployment command due to an error during the manufacturing process, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupants of the vehicle. An unexpected deployment also would distract the driver and limit visibility, which would increase the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the curtain-side air bags free. The recall is expected to begin during August 2012.
Owners may contact Hyundai at 800/633-5151. Owners also may contact National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
