Kraft Foods recalls defective Tassimo T Discs, citing burn hazard
Feb. 10, 2012—Kraft Foods Global recalled Tassimo espresso T Discs because of a burn hazard. The container can become clogged and spray hot liquid and coffee grounds onto consumers and bystanders during or after brewing, posing a burn hazard.
Kraft Foods received 21 reports of hot liquid or coffee grounds spraying onto consumers and bystanders, including four reports of second-degree burns. One injury involved a 2-year-old who received second-degree burns on the face.
The recall includes about 2.1 million packages of 16 T Discs each in the United States and 1.9 million packages of 16 T Discs each in Canada.
This recall involves Gevalia’s Espresso, Espresso Decaffeinated, Cappuccino, Cappuccino Decaffeinated, Skinny Cappuccino, Latte, Caramel Latte Macchiato, Mocha and Peppermint Mocha; Maxwell House’s Espresso, Café Collection Cappuccino, Café Collection Crème Cappuccino, Café Collection Skinny Cappuccino, Café Collection Latte, Café Collection Crème Latte and Café Collection Caramel Latte Macchiato; and Nabob’s Espresso, Cappuccino, Decaf Cappuccino, Latte and Skinny Latte.
The products were sold in department, home-improvement, mass-merchandise and other stores across the United States and Canada and on various websites, including tassimodirect.com, from August 2011 through February 2012 for $8–$11 per package.
