May 17, 2017—La Nica Products recalled 6,000 pounds of white cheese that was distributed in retail stores and supermarkets in California, because it might be contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes-fatal infections in people who have a weakened immune system.

The recalled cheese was sold in 16-ounce opaque plastic bags that display the name Quesos De la Costa Queso Duro Blando Hard Soft Cheese. The name is surrounded by an orange border, and a cow is shown on the label. The recalled cheese has an expiration date of Aug. 31, 2017, the UPC of 8 52304 74023 2 and the lot number 254.

No illnesses were reported as of press time.

Consumers are urged to return the recalled cheese to the place of purchase for a full refund.
