Mercedes recalls E350, E550: air bag might deploy improperly
Oct. 19, 2012—Mercedes-Benz recalled its 2012 E350 and E550 vehicles that were manufactured from April 2, 2012, through June 29, 2012. Improper stitching of the right-side window curtain air bag might cause it to not deploy as intended in the event of a crash. The improper stitching might cause the air bag to deflate more quickly, which would reduce protection and could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Mercedes will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag. The recall is expected to begin during November 2012.
Owners may call Mercedes at 800/367-6372. Owners also may call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
