Mitsubishi recalls i-MiEV because airbags might not deploy

Aug. 9, 2012—Mitsubishi recalled model-year 2012 i-MiEV vehicles that were manufactured from Nov. 4, 2011, through Dec. 22, 2011. Incompatibility between the airbag sensors and the self-diagnostic software might deactivate the front- and side-airbag system. As a result, side and curtain airbags might not deploy in a crash.

Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incompatible air-bag sensors free.

Owners may call Mitsubishi at 800/222-0037. Owners also may call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
