Newman’s Own Organics cites salmonella risk in recall of peanut-butter cookies

Oct. 2, 2012—Newman’s Own Organics recalled its Peanut-Butter Newman-O’s sandwich creme cookies, because the peanut-butter ingredient might be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and individuals who have weakened immune systems.
This recall involves 8-ounce packages Peanut-Butter Newman-O’s cookies that have UPC 757645021708 and an expiration date of May 27, 2013, and 13-ounce packages of Peanut-Butter Newman-O’s cookies that have UPC 757645021500 and an expiration date of May 3, 2013.
The recalled product was distributed to retailers nationwide. No illnesses were reported. Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
