Porsche recalls Cayenne, Panamera due to engine fire risk

July 17, 2012—Porsche recalled 2012 Cayenne Turbo, 2011–2012 Panamera Turbo and 2012 Panamera Turbo S vehicles, because the turbine wheel of a turbocharger might fracture due to a casting defect. If a fracture occurs, vehicle performance will decrease and the turbine shaft might fracture. If the shaft fracture occurs, oil might be drawn into the exhaust system, which would result in smoke and increase the risk of a fire.

Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the turbine wheels free. The recall is expected to begin during July 2012.

Owners may contact Porsche at 800/767-7243. Owners also may contact National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
