Sears recalls dehumidifiers because they might overheat
Aug. 2, 2012—Sears recalled Kenmore dehumidifiers, because they could overheat, smoke, melt and catch fire, which would pose a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
The recalled model numbers are: 580.54351400 (35 pints);580.53509300 (50 pints); 580.53701300 (70 pints); 580.54701400 (70 pints); and 580.54701500 (70 pints). The model number can be found on the right side of the interior of the unit once the bucket is removed.
The recalled products were sold at Kmart and Sears stores nationwide and at kmart.com and sears.com from 2003 through 2009. Sears received 107 reports of incidents that include at least $7 million in property damage, and three reports of smoke-inhalation injuries. Consumers should turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact Sears to receive a gift card. The amount of the gift card will depend on the capacity and the year of the dehumidifier model.
