Shade might obscure driver’s view in certain 2014–2018 Newmar motor homes

July 20, 2017—Newmar recalled 2014–2018 Newmar Dutch Star motor homes and 2015–2017 Newmar Ventana motor homes.

In the affected motor homes, the driver-side and passenger-side powered night shades can be lowered using the remote control while the vehicle’s ignition is in the “on” position. As a result, the shades might be lowered while the motor home is being driven, which would block the driver’s view and might increase the risk of a crash.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay that will disable the remote control’s operation of the driver and passenger night shades while the vehicle ignition is in the “on” position. The repair will be made for free. The recall is expected to begin Aug. 29, 2017.

For more information, owners may call Newmar at 800/731-8300. Owners also may call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
