Talenti Gelato recalls gelato that contains peanut butter, citing salmonella worries
Oct. 8, 2012—Talenti Gelato recalled its Talenti Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup gelato because the product might be contaminated with salmonella.
The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup frozen dessert was distributed to retail stores nationwide between September 2011 and September 2012 and is packaged in clear, plastic 1-pint containers that have UPC 186852000945 printed on the back of the container and “best by” dates 3/21/13 through 3/26/14 printed on the bottom of the container.
The recall excludes all other flavors. No illnesses were reported that were related to this product. Talenti Gelanto initiated this recall, because the peanut butter that was used in the product is supplied by Sunland, which issued a national recall Sept. 25–26, 2012, of some of its products because of possible salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and other individuals who have weakened immune systems.
Customers shouldn’t consume the product and should discard it. Consumers may call Talenti Gelato at 612/455-8104 Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. CT.
