Whole Foods recalls Kenny’s Farmhouse cheese, citing Listeria concerns

Oct. 8, 2012—Whole Foods Market recalled its Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese KY BL and its Blue Kentucky Rose Kenny’s cheese because the products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese KY BL was sold in the Whole Foods store in Louisville, Ky., and was packaged in clear plastic wrap. It was sold with a Whole Foods scale label that has PLU 209578. All “sell by” dates, which are noted on the label, are affected.

The recalled Blue Kentucky Rose Kenny’s cheese was sold at Whole Foods stores in Nashville, Tenn., in clear plastic wrap. It was sold with a Whole Foods scale label that has PLU 71113. The recall affects all sell-by dates, which are noted on the label. No illnesses were reported that were associated with this product.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and other individuals who have weakened immune systems.

Signs that notify customers about this recall are posted in the affected Whole Foods stores. Customers who purchased these products should discard them and may bring their receipt to the store for a full refund. Consumers may call Whole Foods at 512/542-0060 Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. CT.
