Oct. 25, 2012—Wildwood Seeds & Specialties recalled certain Sleek & Sassy brand bird and small-animal pet foods that contain raw in-shell peanuts. The peanuts that were used as an ingredient might be contaminated with salmonella. Consumers who handle dry pet food can become infected with salmonella, especially if they don’t wash their hands thoroughly after they touch surfaces that are exposed to this product. Pets that have salmonella infections might develop a fever or abdominal pain or lose their appetite.

For a list of the affected products and UPCs, go to Food and Drug Administration’s website.

The recalled products were distributed to retail pet-food stores in Oregon and Washington. No illnesses were reported. Consumers should stop using the recalled products and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of them.
