Yokohama recalls Avid Touring tires on risk of rapid air loss

Oct. 15, 2012—Yokohama recalled Avid Touring tires in size 215/65R16 98T SL that were produced from February 2009 through April 2009. These tires might have been produced with an irregular geometry in the casing turn-up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall. This irregular geometry might lead to a crack in the lower sidewall that would result in a rapid loss of air. Rapid air loss while the vehicle is in use might result in a tire failure that could cause a crash.

Yokohama will notify owners, and dealers will replace the recalled tires free. The safety recall is expected to begin Oct. 20, 2012.

Owners may call Yokohama at 888/589-3348. Owners also may call National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
